This past weekend, Mumford & Sons stopped by Philadelphia’s Radio 104.5 for an in-studio interview. They also debuted a new song called Ghosts That We Knew. It’s very pretty, but be warned it’s a ballad–there’s no foot-stomping here.

I am proud to report that the album that I nominated as Best 2009 Album Never Released is now making its long-awaited debut. It’s not a total surprise, as We Are Augustines has promised that the album would at some point see the light of day, but it’s so great that the time has finally come. [...]

Siren No More

06May11

It was recently announced that after 10 years, the Siren Music Festival will not take place this year. Instead, the Village Voice is hosting a (smaller?) music event at South Street Seaport. Here are the details from their blog: With the beginning of spring comes the announcement of summertime music festivals, and we have one [...]

Next month, Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show are setting off on a very unique tour which will takes them to six cities across the southwestern part of the country. Instead of traveling by tour bus, the bands decided to take it to the rails…and I don’t [...]

During my concert lull I’ve had a chance to have some apartment concerts of my own. OK, so it’s not really a concert since it’s on TV, but I have been able to hear some great bands from the comfort of my living room. Here’s the scoop: The Strokes are back! And they played SNL [...]

Name that Tune

20Sep10

I knew I recognized this voice…how about you? Can you name this tune? It’s M. Ward’s “Here Comes the Sun Again” from his album Transistor Radio. Next, I was happy to hear that English band Mumford & Sons  made their way into premiere week on FOX. Their songs were featured in the pilot episode of [...]

Whoa.. did I just read this correctly??  A music festival in Canton, MA????  I can’t believe I just came across this.  And Dr. Dog will be there? And Ben Harper? And Grace Potter & the Nocturnals?  And The Sippy Cups? Ok, I admit I do not know The Sippy Cups, but I imagine they are [...]

Unfortunately I missed The New Pornographers most recent stop in NYC on their current tour, but I realized that NPR has a full concert download from their sold out June show at Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club. It’s a good mix of new and old, and the sound is really clear. Best part: with one click [...]

It’s outdoor concert and film season! And it seems like each year there are more and more venues added to the mix—like this year’s new stage at Governor’s Island. I’ve listed a bunch of the venues as well a few of the bands playing at each place this summer. Celebrate Brooklyn: Norah Jones, Ozomatli, The [...]

Looks like the people at Bowery Presents have snagged a nice little piece of beachfront music venue property. Up until now Governor’s Island has been reserved for picnics, biking, skyline photography and the occasional polo match. With it’s colonial buildings and wide lawns, it’s a nice little retreat from Manhattan. So I’m looking forward to [...]
